A leader in Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette’s executive search team, Laura's strategic mindset, excellent communication skills, and sincere interest in people have made her a trusted advisor to the firm's public-sector clients.
Laura first joined Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette as the leader of the largest executive search research team in eastern Canada. She was responsible for ensuring national best practices in search delivery and the hiring and development of the recruitment and research team.
Laura now serves as a search consultant to academic and public-sector clients and provides counsel and strategic advice on equity issues as the firms’ Diversity and Inclusion Lead. Both her academic training and professional experience have helped her to develop sound strategies for successfully incorporating principles of diversity and inclusion into the recruitment and selection process. Her professional research training has also allowed her to serve as a coach and resource to the firms’ research team, guiding them towards best practices in the search for diverse pools of candidates.
Prior to joining KBRS, Laura held both research and teaching positions at post-secondary institutions across Ontario and served in senior acquisitions and editorial positions at an academic publishing firm, including as Managing Editor of Canada’s oldest feminist press. In this role she was instrumental in recruiting new authors and developing strong national networks and partnerships with feminist scholars across the academic sector.
Laura received her Master’s and PhD from York University where she was the recipient of several prominent awards including a Social Science and Humanities Research Fellowship for her research into historical issues of equity, gender, and race. She used this research to develop and teach courses in the fields of history, cultural studies, gender studies, and post-colonial studies. Her academic training in these areas continues to inform and inspire her belief in the value of a diverse and inclusive work space.
Laura lives in Halifax with her partner and two daughters and enjoys spending time near the water and enjoying the beauty this province has to offer.
