Reporting to the Dean of Medicine, the Associate Dean (Research) promotes and champions research excellence within the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. The Associate Dean (Research) has responsibility for leadership in and administration of research within the Faculty of Medicine and manages the Medical Research Development Office to ensure effective use of the Faculty’s resources in supporting research and graduate programs. As a member of the senior leadership team in the Faculty of Medicine, the Associate Dean (Research) plays an active and central role in Faculty-wide decision making, operational planning and strategy setting. The Associate Dean (Research) supports all forms of scholarly endeavor within the Faculty of Medicine, assisting and mentoring researchers in securing ongoing support and investments from all sources including the three national granting councils, private industry, and numerous other funding partners. The Associate Dean (Research) works collaboratively with faculty, department heads, senior leaders, and staff within the Faculty of Medicine and plays a crucial leadership role in coordinating planning and research efforts with colleagues across the University including the Vice-President Research, the Office of Research Services and Associate Deans (Research) in other Faculties and with external partners and stakeholders including Vice-Presidents responsible for research in the health authorities of the Maritime Provinces, those responsible for health research within the government ministries of the Maritime Provinces, and research partners and funders within the national medical and health research sector.
Interested in the opportunity to enhance collaboration, partnerships and research productivity, you are a researcher with a PhD and/or an MD who brings a track record of relevant research activity that provides the foundation to understand and lead the Faculty’s strategic research goals. You have participated in large research enterprises/programs and understand the factors and culture required to develop, foster and support medical school research that is internationally recognized and responsive to health needs. You have experience in attracting significant research funding from a range of sources, are familiar with national, provincial and international granting agencies and are able to mentor and assist colleagues in developing their research programs. Your relationship building skills allow you to seek out and create collaborative partnerships within and across your organization and with partners locally, nationally and internationally.
